CANbus
CANbus
CANbus is the ability for our devices to interrogate the vehicles telemetry. It retrieves over 20 parameters including fuel, braking, acceleration and idle time. This gives you access to important data to manage your fleet more effectively.
CANbus
Common Area Network bus or CANbus is the ability for our devices to interrogate the vehicles telemetry. There are over 20 parameters we retrieve such as mpg (fuel used), braking, acceleration, idle time and so on. The information is in line with the industry FMS standard meaning that we can allow you to compare multiple vehicle makes but see just one standardised set of data. The net result is that you can compare drivers in your fleet even though they are driving different vehicles. The true effectiveness of CANbus reporting is to use driver league tables and see the correlation between fuel consumption ( mpg / kpl ) and each drivers behaviour. No surprise but drivers that display aggressive behaviour both through over-torque and harsh braking use more fuel than careful drivers. Having the proof both of the fuel used and the performance metrics is a powerful tool in being able to coach drivers as part of their de-brief.
Importantly we use a diode solution which only allows CANbus data to be read and not pushed back into the vehicle. As a double security measure we also use a CANcliq contactless connector so that no physical connection is made to the vehicle's CAN wiring. We warrant any vehicle issues related to our installation.

VeriLocation's CANbus solution uses industry leader Squarell's FLEX Vehicle Data Interface (vdi).
FLEX is an advanced FMS interface with connectivity to all the important vehicle data networks like CANbus, J1939, J1708/J1587, OBD, K-line, L-line, EU Tachograph, ISO11992, serial and proprietary data networks.
FLEX can be used in automotive applications including;
- Telematics
- Real time monitoring
- Measurement & Control
- Interfacing
The VeriLocation solution can be used in a multitude of commercial vehicles with the data normalised across all fleet types so that level comparisons can be made.
CANbus solution offers:
- driver behaviour using performance metrics from vehicles data sensors ( eg. fuel used, braking,)
- K-Line interface gives tacho data feed
- fuel siphoning alert via fuel level monitoring
- poor engine performance senses
- trailer monitoring via Power Lince Communications
- driver awareness panel connectivity
- load measuring ( where available )
