The accelerometer fits into the GPS tracker box to record acceleration, braking and overall driver behaviour. This software allows the business to build up a profile of the driver and their driving behaviour.
Accelerometer (LED)
An accelerometer can be fitted into one of our GPS tracking boxes to record acceleration, braking, cornering and overall driver behaviour.
Our 5110 series GPS unit has a built in accelerometer allowing for the reporting of 3-axis driving style. Driver reports are available showing where thresholds have been breached and a point system used to "score" drivers in your fleet. Typical scores are given for acceleration, braking and cornering.
A blue LED and buzzer can be added to the box to give instant driver feedback.

Many of our GPS tracking devices carry accelerometer capabilities to be able to measure in three axis to movement of the vehicle it is attached to. Combined with actual speed data it is possible to build up a profile of the driver and their driving behaviour. Whilst our full CANbus solutions provide much of this data from on-board sensors, it may not be commercially viable to justify the upgrade to CAN integration. Also, not all vehicles have CANbus capability therefore, accelerometer solutions are the natural solution.
Typical applications and markets are:
- Light van fleets to profile drivers
- Sales force car fleets
- Insurance telematics
- Engineering vehicles
Using our series of reports and league tables it is possible to highlight the worst drivers and compliment the better drivers. Studies show that careful drivers use less fuel, have fewer accidents and have lower wear and tear on tyres and mechanical components.
Insurance companies now take a special interest in these methods and link them to insurance premiums for fleet or individual policies.
VeriLocation use the accelerometer solution for their own fleet on both the sales and engineering driver’s vehicles. It has successfully assisted in preventing accidents by identifying poor driving habits early on and taking action on them.
