VeriLocation wins top Innovation Award

November 2009

VeriLocation has beaten a number of other technology firms to the Innovation Award at the Northamptonshire Business Excellence Awards 2009.

The award was judged by Northamptonshire Enterprise Limited. Judges commented that they were impressed by the sheer number of innovative solutions VeriLocation has developed, each one at the forefront of GPS telematics both in the UK and worldwide.

They also highlighted the way the concept is then turned into a practical and fully working application which adds real value to VeriLocation’s clients.

Andrew Overton, the managing director of VeriLocation, said: “I set up this business in 1995, and to win an award like this is an amazing pay off for nearly 15 years of hard work.

“Our entire business is built on innovation and finding ways to adapt technology to solve problems for our clients. To be recognised as the leader in the field is a satisfying reward.”

The key to VeriLocation’s innovation has been to take the basic information provided by GPS tracking and vehicle telematics, and find new unique ways to apply it, analyse it, and allow clients to use it to improve their businesses.

Over the last decade the industry has changed significantly and VeriLocation has been continuously innovating to stay ahead.

The award judges picked VeriLocation for its work in three key areas:

1. Combining data: Knowing where a vehicle is in real time is useful, but has its limitations. However when combined with other data, this information becomes powerful. An example is a recent solution aimed at companies transporting delicate human tissue, such as blood and organs. The GPS information provided by VeriLocation is merged with information provided by RFID (Radio Frequency ID) tags and precise temperature information from a number of sensors. It means that not only can hospitals be alerted automatically to the imminent arrival or urgent supplies, but the temperature can be monitored in real time anywhere in the world. If the temperature rises near critical levels an alarm can be sounded both in the vehicle itself, and at HQ.

2. Analysing data: Information supplied by VeriLocation can be viewed by any authorised person, using any computer connected to the internet, anywhere in the world. And information is automatically analysed and collected into reports for clients. For example, vehicle fleet managers can see at a glance which of their drivers drive in the most fuel-economical way, or follow basic rules such as switching off engines when idling.

3. Using data to achieve profitable change: VeriLocation recognises that having data alone will not achieve change in a business. And so every client receives full support to help them understand the implications of data and implement it to achieve change. For example, a fleet manager can use hard data to show a driver that the way they drive is burning more fuel than their colleagues, and set them hard targets to drive in a more fuel-efficient way. Small changes backed up by data can save clients with large fleets significant amounts of money over time.

VeriLocation can help your business improve its operations, increase efficiencies and significantly cut costs. Please get in touch for an informal discussion with no obligation.
