Power Line Communication ( PLC ) trailer tracking developed
July 2008
Companies wishing to have low cost but effective trailer tracking can now benefit from VeriLocation's new PLC tracking system for minimal cost. Traditional trailer tracking requires the fitting of a complete independent GPS device such as VL-Fleet , however due to trailers not having an independent power supply and the high cost per device this option is rarely taken up. With this in mind VeriLocation have developed a small device which sends the trailers ID over the power loom and through the Susie connector to the tractor unit where a reader box is listening for the ID. This ID is then used along with the GPS data from the tractor unit to provide a "virtual" location used by the trailor. As no wiring is required and no specialist equipment apart from the ID box the cost of the system is offered at a fraction of the cost of a GPS solution but with exactly the same information i.e. where is my trailer, where has it been and what vehicle was it connected to.
