We launched some exciting new products at this year's Commercial Vehicle on Stand 3565.
Find out about the new VL-CANbus system for analysing driver performance - the second biggest factor affecting HGV fuel consumption after load weight. Our customers' trials have shown that fuel costs can be significantly reduced.
After testing VL-CANbus over a four week period, Andy Wreford of Wreford's Transport in Northampton, said: "We can save 5% of our fuel bills by using the VL-CANbus driver behaviour reports from VeriLocation." With a typical HGV using £50,000 of fuel per year, a 5% reduction equates to annual savings of £2,500 per vehicle.
The VL-CANbus extracts raw data from the engine's CANbus (Common Area Network) and monitors over 120,000 records a minute. This data is summarised into 'journey events' which are analysed to provide information about each driver's performance. Good performance can be rewarded to achieve the best results in the short term. Additional cost-savings can be made from reduced wear and tear, less downtime and reduced accident rates. The VL-CANbus is not manufacturer-specific so can be fitted to any type of commercial vehicle.
We also launched VL-Trailer at The Commercial Vehicle Show. This innovative device enables you to track trailers in real-time, independently of the cab. All components are installed in a self-contained box, which is secured to the trailer chassis. VL-Trailer is fully waterproof, has an independent power source and requires no aerials or external wires.
Both VL-CANbus and VL-Trailer can be viewed through an easy-to-use web browser for real-time tracking.
