New customers purchasing the VL-Fleet GPS tracking system from VeriLocation will be automatically notified free of charge when they enter the extended London congestion charging zone. VL-Fleet tracks the vehicle using a GPS tracking device which monitors its location every second. If the vehicle enters or leaves the London congestion charging zone at any point during the hours in which the charge applies, an alert can be triggered instantly. VeriLocation will then send an email to the fleet manager informing them of the event. On receipt of the email, the fleet manager can then act to avoid the non-payment fine. Failure to pay the congestion charge results in a penalty charge notice of £100 issued to the registered keeper of the vehicle.
Andrew Overton, Managing Director at VeriLocation comments: "It can be extremely frustrating, and costly, for fleet managers or business owners when drivers fail to inform them that they have entered the congestion charging zone. Drivers may take time to get used to the extension of the London zone, which only came into force on February 19th. And this is in addition to their other responsibilities. An email from VeriLocation following an alert from VL-Fleet, can make a big difference if it’s acted upon in time. It can save money and may help to avoid the need for disciplinary action."
A number of roads within the zone remain exempt from the charge to act as a through way. VL-Fleet can also identify these routes, so the fleet manager is informed that a vehicle has entered the zone but is actually exempt from the charge at that point.
Andrew adds: "Due to the accuracy of the system, false alarms are unlikely. VL-Fleet also provides an accurate and comprehensive audit trail, which can provide valuable information on a vehicle's whereabouts should a dispute arise."
