New trailer tracking system for better security

28.03.07

Truckpol, a national intelligence unit, has estimated that road freight crime costs the UK economy up to £1 billion per year. The theft of large goods vehicles and their loads causes significant costs and logistical problems to manufacturers, operators and retailers. The new VL-Trailer tracking system from VeriLocation enables fleet managers to track trailers in real-time, independently of the cab. It overcomes the issues normally associated with trailer tracking to provide greater security.

VL-Trailer uses assisted GPS (Global Positioning System) technology to enable it to receive signals in enclosed spaces and determine the exact location of the trailer 24 hours a day. VL-Trailer is always on: its own independent power source is trickle-charged from low power circuits on the trailer, such as indicators, brakes and side lights.

All the components are installed in a self-contained box, which is secured to the trailer chassis, so it is unaffected by the loading and unloading of the trailer. VL-Trailer is extremely robust and will last indefinitely due to its fully waterproof construction with no aerials or external wires.

VL-Trailer can be viewed through an easy-to-use web browser for real-time tracking throughout the UK, Europe and Middle East. The journey of each trailer can be tracked from start to finish, and multiple trailers can be viewed simultaneously to find the exact location, direction and speed of travel. Results are shown on unique street level maps or aerial photographs. In addition, VL-Trailer provides a comprehensive audit trail and information can be easily obtained from daily, weekly or monthly reports.
