Car Tracking and Asset Management

Car Tracking and Asset Management

Posted by on 8 August 2012 | 0 Comments

Car tracking units are a modern method of protecting the precious assets of any business. The assets of a business are the foundations on which the business is built. We can include in this, not only the vehicles, which are used to transport goods from depot to destination, but also the drivers and, importantly the cargo to be delivered. Before the advent of tracking devices, it was not unusual to hear on the news that a large cargo had been intercepted and stolen by thieves. Tracking units have had a major impact in the reduction of vehicle crime, but have improved the level of recovery of goods and vehicles, if they have been stolen. The advantage of a car tracking unit, is that it can allow the vehicle to be tracked in real time. It may well be that there are road diversions or an accident in which the driver is advised to take an alternative route. By having this information on screen immediately, changes can be made to minimise time loss.

Where are my valuables?

Transporting a valuable cargo can be stressful for the person transporting them, but invariably is more of a worry for the person waiting nervously for their arrival. By fitting a car tracking unit, a business will be able to show their customer on line where their particular cargo is at any point on the journey. With the right system, extra security can be included such as a geofence. This means that if the vehicle leaves a predetermined area that an alarm will sound, and help dispatched if required. This gives an extra layer of security over and above the usual vehicle alarm, and allows a company to sell this aspect of their service to a potential customer. All of these extra layers of security are useful if a business is trying to negotiate for improved insurance terms.

Positive and negative car tracking

Once a customer knows that there is every chance that your business will stick to the schedule that they have promised, there is much more chance that repeat business will come your way.

A tracking unit offers another aspect to your business which was not available only a few short years ago, and allows your business to compete with the best. You can use your tracker for positive reasons to help plan your business, but it can also be used to help reduce negative impacts on your business, such as delays, or even theft. Today, with the improvements in modern technology, installing a car tracking unit is the way forward for many fleet businesses.
