On September the 12th, our extremely brave colleague Jon will be undertaking probably the biggest challenge of his life -running the Thames Path Challenge 100k Ultra Marathon from Putney Bridge to Henley in one day in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity.

In 2014, Jon very sadly lost his beautiful young wife to an inoperable brain tumour. The support and friendship gained through The Brain Tumour Charity during the last year of Monika’s life were invaluable to both Jon and his wife during that period and since her passing.

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer in the UK of people under 40 and the research is massively underfunded. Over £500 million a year is spent on cancer research in the UK, yet less than 2% of this goes towards brain tumour research which is far too little considering the outcome for so many people affected. The Brain Tumour Charity works to fund both ground breaking research as well as raising awareness of brain tumours. In memory of his beautiful wife and in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity, Jon is attempting this 100k running challenge to raise £10,000 for the charity to put towards the incredible research they do for this terrible disease!

He is nearing the end of his 24 week training plan, all of which you can read about on his incredibly endearing blog – http://www.realbuzz.com/blogs/u/JonNewsumSmith/running-an-ultra-marathon-not-eating-a-king-size-snickers/

Current fundraising total on Jon’s Just Giving page is £8,342. With just 2 weeks to go until the big day please donate what ever you can help help Jon reach his target! If you would like to contribute, Jon has set up a number of different ways to do so:

– Text Mona82 and the amount in pounds you wish to donate to 70070

– Visit his Just Giving Page at https://www.justgiving.com/Jon-Newsum-Smith/

– Donate directly to the Brain Tumour charity – instructions on how to do this are on Monika’s fund page – visit http://www.thebraintumourcharity.org/supporter-groups/monika-newsum-smith-fund

– You can even create your own fundraising event and join the team to collect funds for Monika’s fund on the Brain Tumour Charity website https://www.justgiving.com/teams/mona

A big good luck to Jon from all the Verilocation team!!!!

“We are determined to increase survival and reduce the effect that brain tumours have on quality of life. We are funding clinical trials and novel methods of drug development to help drugs get to the clinic. We will invest in new technologies that will aid the early and accurate diagnosis of brain tumours.”
